Which is for you? French Press vs. Aeropress

Do you ever wonder which brewing technique you actually prefer? Both are delicious options, so we've listed out a great comparison for you to get to know both the French Press and the Aeropress. We are here to help you narrow down what you are looking for!

Contender #1: The French Press

This brew is known for it's popular appearance at brunch-spots in the last 10 years. It is a great brewing technique used at home because you don't need very much equipment (just a press and a kettle) and the result is always delicious! We recommend brewing your coffee around 4 minutes before plunging and giving it a quick stir after your cover the grounds is water.

The French Press presents an often muddy cup, but you can eliminate a lot of this if you find the perfect grind size. We recommend anywhere between a medium-course to a course grind. This will ensure that you are able to properly extract your coffee without there being an overly bitter tail to it.

Overall we love how easy this is for the home and plus they look cute on display! The only downside is it can be a bit of a pain to clean up since you have to go into the vessel with a utensil and spoon out the wet grounds.

Contender #2: The Aeropress

This technique has championed the name "The Camping Brew". It is small and compact, and made of plastic so there is no worry of it being broken when you pack it away. The mechanics of it make is very easy to brew wherever you are, since you only need a kettle and a filter! The vacuum seal gives you the chance to brew it in a few different ways too.

The Aeropress is known for it's clean-cup body. It often presents a more delicate side of the coffee you are brewing, especially since it only has the capabilities of brewing around 8 ounces at a time. We recommend brewing the Aeropress anywhere from 1-3 minutes depending on the way you are brewing. It is also helpful to give it a stir after wetting the grounds to ensure that all are covered.

To sum it up, the Aeropress is great for 1 or 2 people at a time, if you are having a larger party it may not be the most suitable vessel for you. What we absolutely love about it is the clean up: all you need to do it completely compress the Aeropress to the end and you can just pop the waste into your compost bin! It's a win-win for everyone.
